"By an act of the legislature this year [1865], Stephen Spaulding of Sumner, together with his real estate, was set off from that town and annexed to Buckfield." [Cole and Whitman, History of Buckfield (1915), p. 427] As Spaulding was enumerated in Buckfield in 1860, it is possible that the 1856 annexation is here referred to
