Adjacent unincorporated land was annexed in 1734

Mere Point was set off to Brunswick in 1739, and Merriconeag Neck (later Harpswell) was annexed by that town in 1740

Small Point (now part of Phippsburg) was set off to Georgetown in 1741

Land was set off to form Freeport in 1789, Cumberland in 1821, and Yarmouth in 1849

Land was set off to form Pownal in 1813, and part of that town was annexed in 1816
