1762 from part of Biddeford as the district of Pepperellborough; incorporated as a town in 1775; name changed in 1805 to Saco

Part of Scarborough was annexed in 1841

Land was set off to form Old Orchard (now Old Orchard Beach) in 1883, and additional land was set off to that town in 1927
