In this database will be found abstracts of the 775 earliest records of the probate court in Lincoln County, established in 1760. The county originally encompassed all that part of Maine lying east of the Androscoggin River. Hancock and Washington Counties were set off in 1789, Kennebec County in 1799. Penobscot, Somerset, Waldo, Knox, and Sagadahoc Counties once lay entirely within the bounds of Lincoln County, and their earliest probate records will be found in this collection.

The abstracts are taken from The Probate Records of Lincoln County, Maine, 1760 to 1800, compiled by William D. Patterson and published by the Maine Genealogical Society in 1895.

Corrections have been made in accordance with the book's page of errata. Notes in double brackets are my own. Notes in single brackets refer to the original Lincoln County records, which may be viewed at FamilySearch.
